Ground Team Basic Students learn the basics to knot tying for field use.
Iowa Wing converged upon Camp Dodge for the Emergency Services Academy. This training was meant to benefit new officers and cadets by giving them introductory Emergency Services Specialty Training. There were 5 tracks available to students: Ground Team Basic, Ground Team Leadership, Mission Support, Mission Scannner, and Mission Pilot / Observer.
The February weekend of training was geared towards classroom training and basic demonstration of skills to prepare students for a field exercise weekend in late March. The goal of the Academy is to train and qualify students in the specialty areas they designate.
The training was interrupted on Friday and Saturday evenings by actual missions. Friday night the academy launched crews to locate an actual ELT (Emergency Locator Transmitter) at Ankeny Regional Airport. On Saturday evenign crews were launched to Spencer Regional Airport to silence another ELT. Thankfully, both were false alarms.
