Civil Air Patrol Conducts Exercise in Marshalltown
By Capt Bruce Tiemann

More than 60 Civil Air Patrol officers and cadets participated in an Iowa Wing search and rescue exercise (SAREX) that mobilized Civil Air Patrol units from across the state and featured various pre-planned training scenarios around Marshalltown, Iowa, on Saturday, 9 July, 2005.

Civil Air Patrol air and ground teams conducted fifteen sorties involving simulated homeland security aerial photo reconaissance assignments, community damage assessment and searches for a missing person and missing aircraft. Iowa Wing coordinates search and rescue exercises several times each year so its Civil Air Patrol responders are well-trained and confident in their abilities to carry out actual missions that may occur at a moment's notice.
