Iowa Flag Exercise

During the period August 7 through August 16, Iowa CAP flew 13 sorties in support of a joint Iowa Army Guard and Air Guard exercise named Iowa Flag.  Iowa CAP communication services (personnel and equipment) were located on the grounds of the 133rd Air Control Squadron based in Ft. Dodge, and CAP aircrew flew assigned sorties in the Crypt MOA located just west of Ft. Dodge.  The mission assigned to CAP was to simulate flights by Predator UAVs, flying routes and orbits intended to complicate attacks by Guard F-16s and USAF B-2 bombers.

Lt Col Gene Kellogg served as CAP IC during the exercise; Capt Kim Kirschman coordinated air operations.  Mission pilots were Capt Leo Bertling, Capt Frank Gutierrez, Capt George Cobley, Capt Terry Koehn, Capt Terry Kruse, Capt Gary Aho, Lt Col Mike McCoy, Capt Bruce Wright, and Capt Kim Kirschman.
