Missing Person Search
Submitted by Capt. Kim Kirschman
At about 0600 local time on Friday, August 4, I received a call from Major Doug Jansen, Iowa Wing Director of Operations, requesting that I initiate a missing person search in the vicinity of Nevada, Iowa. With Lt Don Wood and Lt Rob MacDougall serving as aircrew and using 99750, and Iowa Wing Cessna 172, as our aerial search platform, we departed Ankeny and flew to Nevada to take photos of the search area, then proceeded to the Ames airport and picked up a local firefighter who was equipped with an infrared scanner. By the time we departed Ames the missing person had been found, but we nevertheless made a brief flight to the search area to gain experience with the infrared equipment. After a few orbits around Nevada we returned to Ames to deplane the firefighter, then continued on to Ankeny.
Notes: The missing person was found in the home of a friend, sleeping off the effects of a night of heavy indulgence.
