1. The Central Iowa Composite Squadron will be conducting a Survival School (Ground Team Member Training) on 25-27 April 2003 at Camp Dodge, Johnston, IA. Sign-in for the training will begin at 1900 hours Friday the 25th at Building M-9. Prerequisites for the courses are: a. Senior members must have completed Level 1 and CPPT b. Cadets must be at least Cadet Airmen c. Students must have completed the new 100 Question CAPT 116 d. Students must have proof of a current wing-issued CAPF 101 for at least General Emergency Services e. Students need to have a CAPF 101T signed by their commanders for either Ground Team Member or Urban DF Team if not already qualified
2. The schedule includes sign-in and classroom training Friday night, a full day of training until 2200 hours on Saturday, reconvening on Sunday at about 0700, with completion no later than 1600 Sunday. At this school we will emphasize training our personnel in the skills that are not specific to SAR (Search and Rescue). These skills include what kinds of equipment to carry, how to pack your equipment, orienteering, hiking skills, setting up shelters, and camping skills. We will not be covering search techniques. Participants will spend the night in the field Saturday. Students should bring proper equipment to spend the night in a field environment. The cost of the activity is $30.00. Checks may be made out to Civil Air Patrol. 3. Participants should plan on arriving on Friday night, 25 April. Participants should plan on eating prior to arrival on Friday night. Lodging on Camp Dodge is included in the activity cost for both Friday and Saturday nights. The activity fee will provide Saturday Breakfast, Saturday Lunch, Saturday Dinner, Sunday Breakfast, and Sunday Lunch. 4. Uniform for this activity will be the Battle Dress Uniform (Woodland or Blue). Members are asked to bring appropriate outerwear for pro-longed outdoor activity in April. Enclosed in this mailing is a recommended packing list. Participants who cannot compile the required equipment will still be able to participate as long as they can do so safely. However, they will not have that task checked off for qualification. Students are also asked to bring the following minimum equipment:
a. 24 Hour GTM Gear and 72 Hour GTM Gear (see attached) b. Overnight Gear (Sleeping Bag, Pillow, Toiletries)
5. Pre-registration is REQUIRED. Students are asked to complete CAPF 31’s for this activity. CAPF 31’s MUST include the member’s SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER so that they can be included in a Military Support Authorization. Completed CAPF 31’s should be mailed to Central Iowa Composite Squadron, Post Office Box 1285, Ames, IA 50014. Applications are due at the PO Box NLT 18 April 2003. Attendance will be limited due to facilities, so applications will be handled on a first come, first serve basis.

Ground Team Mandatory Equipment List
The equipment on this list has been taken from the team tasks manual. If a participant arrives at the school without this equipment they will not be able to have this task signed off. This is a lot of equipment for many people to obtain, and members may not be familiar with it. As a part of the course we will provide instruction in its use and care. If members are unable to obtain this equipment they will still be allowed to participate in the school unless of course it becomes a safety hazard.
On Your Person
1. Complete BDU Uniform (Blue or Woodland Camo) with BDU Cap 2. Notepad and Pencil 3. All CAP Identification, including CAPF 101, ROA card, first aid cards 4. Watch 5. Handkerchief 6. 24 Hour Gear
A. First Aid Kit -2 Antiseptic, cleansing pads -Antiseptic ointment –6 Band-Aids, various sizes –Moleskin, 2” X 4” –Roller bandage –2 Safety pins, large –4 gauze pads –1 Triangular Bandage –Tape, first aid –Rubber surgical gloves (2 Pair) –Personal medication (Your team leaders should know what you have and where you carry it)
B. Survival Kit, stored in a zip lock bag or other waterproof container, consisting of –1 Long burning candle –Duct tape, 5-10 feet –Leaf bag, large –12 waterproofed matches –Match container, waterproof, with striking surface –1 Chemical Light Stick, Green (T) –50’ of nylon line (paracord).
C. SAR Equipment stored in ziplock bags, consisting of –Change of socks –Flagging tape –Flashlight (with red or blue lens, spare bulb and batteries) –Spare Flashlight (penlight will do) –Insect Repellent –Lip balm with sunscreen –Sunscreen –Tissue Paper –Leather Work Gloves –4 Moist Towelettes –4 Quarters for phone calls –Blank Interviewing forms (CAP Form 106) D. 2 Meals E. Remember this is the required equipment you can always pack more but be aware of the fact that YOU will be required to carry it. I can only suggest that you pack your equipment at home, and carry it around to get used to its weight and feel.
