NATIONAL BOARDS
Iowa Wing was awarded the CAP Mission Award for North Central Region for Counterdrug Operations at the Annual Awards Ceremony by General Bobick. COL Rex Glasgow, COL John Lalla, LTC Russell Smith, MAJ Terry Spitzer, Chief Bill Goodman and wife Sue attended this years meeting in San Antonio.
COL Glasgow attended briefings on the latest aspects of legal, funding and command.
MAJ Spitzer, our Wing DAE attended briefings on the NEW Aerospace program, which will roll out to the units later this year. It is going back to more "hands on" as well as reading with "modules" for the various topics in the program. We will be previewing this at the Wing Conference in Dubuque on 18 Nov.
Chief Goodman attended the Public Affairs seminars and gathered materials for this new program.
They were also briefed on the Soaring program which is getting a lot of attention right now. CAP has ordered 15 new MAULE aircraft and 8 new Cessna 172S models. These aircraft will arrive later in the year to different Wings. The MAULE will be used for glider towing, videography and SAR.
Most of the major vendors that supply CAP and some of the organizations that we work with had displays.
The SAR/EX at Ames was a success in so many ways. First we were visited by Senator Tom Harken. He is a CAP member and is planning on doing some training and stopped in to see what we were doing at our training. The video imaging was being practiced. The Cadets and Seniors where doing search and rescue, and the air teams where working on their scenarios.
The Red Cross held a disaster class on Saturday evening after a great meal they fixed for us.
We all wish 1LT Joe Johnston, DOC, a very speedy recovery.
THIS & THAT
Sounds like the group from EICS that went to the Oshkosh Airshow really had a good time. There is also talk about doing this again next year.
REMEMBER, you need to be sending in your nominations for the Wing Awards Banquet. See your squadron Commander or contact Chief Goodman about the details. ALSO, make your reservations NOW for the Conference.
We hope everyone had a good summer. School is once again back in session, so remember to watch your speed in the school zone and watch out for the students.
WHEN ON HWY. 13/151, SW CORNER IN MARION, LOOK AT THE BILLBOARD SUPPORTING CAP.
