Thank you LTC Russell Smith for keeping this reporter up-to-date on the Operations end of the Wing.   Sounds like we have been doing some CN work and will be flying the canine and handlers to classes in Peru, IN again.  Looks like most of the airplanes are ready to go.  REMEMBER COMMANDERS THERE ARE LOTS OF CADETS WHO STILL NEED TO FLY and this does put good hours on the planes.

On 16 September, classes where held in Des Moines for the Mission Air Crew training and CN training. Understand both classes were well attended and even had a special student in the CN classes, our North Central Region Commander, COL Sheila Waldorf.

CADETS

The Iowa Cadet Encampment for 2000 is now behind us.  This reporter really enjoyed herself.  This was my very first encampment and I am looking forward to many more.  The cadets really work hard.  They are put to the test on physical and mental scenarios.  There was the tour of the Gold Star Museum, Starc Armory and the Air National Guard Base where they were able to see the F-16 and sit in the flight simulator.  Cadet outstanding officer of the encampment was C/1LT Nicole Breitbach, Dubuque Composite Squadron, who was the Cadet Public Affairs Officer for the encampment.  Outstanding Cadet NCO was C/TSgt Lauren Seruya, East Iowa Cadet Squadron and Honor Cadet was C/CMSgt Justin Meyer, Dubuque Composite Squadron.  The outstanding senior members of the Encampment were CPT John Halbrook, Central Iowa Composite Flight and CPT Brian Butters, Des Moines Composite Squadron.

The Cadets of the East Iowa Cadet Squadron Rifle Guard demonstrated their skill in rifle and drill maneuvers for the joint Army/Navy reserves open house in Cedar Rapids.

The Rifle Guard presented the colors at the opening and closing ceremonies and performed their rifle routines four times throughout the day.  The Army also provided the Civil Air Patrol with a table for the purpose of recruiting.

The members of the Cadet Rifle Guard include: C/2LT's Daniel Stone and Shea Daniels, C/MSgt A. M. Church, C/TSgt A. J. Ohde and C/Amn Kristina Kearly.  Senior member escorts included LTC Douglas Tindal, CPT Joseph Curry, 1LT Kathy Stone and 2LT Vickie Ohde.

REMEMBER, NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE YOUR ROOM RESERVATION FOR THE IOWA WING CONFERENCE.  We will be having Senator Tom Harken (weather permitting), NCR Commander COL Sheila Waldorf, plus other dignitaries joining us for the opening session on 18 November, at the Five Flags Holiday Inn, Dubuque.  At the opening session we will be talking about the NEW 60-3, NEW Aerospace program, NEW Public Affairs Program, Operation, etc.  This will be a good chance to learn correctly about all the new programs that we ALL will be using in 2001.  Also, in the afternoon we will have sessions for the cadets and seniors.

Friday evening, we will be having a hospitality room for seniors and a hospitality room for the cadets.  Plus there are extra things planned for the cadets.

REMEMBER, the conference is for ALL senior and cadet members.

We will be having the "Looking Glass" from the U. S. Air Force Heartland of America Band playing for us during the day and at the banquet.  Also our guest speaker is Retired Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Robert D "Bob" Gaylor.  The banquet is for spouses, significant others, parents or anyone else you want to bring.  During the day there will be places to go and things to see and do for these folks also.

The registration for the conference will be in the mail soon, BUT YOUR ROOM RESERVATION NEEDS TO BE MADE NOW!

REMEMBER - Fill out and send in your reports on time, so everyone can have an easier time doing the paperwork.
