FROM THE DESK OF THE IOWA WING DIRECTOR OF GLIDER OPERATIONS, LT COL STEVE LEWIS
By the time you receive this newsletter the IA Wing Glider may be very close to being here. As of April 29th, it had arrived by ship in New York Harbor. It is to be shipped by truck to Burlington and arrive early in the week of May 6th. I have several of you that have volunteered to help with set up etc. this will take place at the National Guard Armory across from the airport. I will need to supply the a list of individuals that may take part, their Social Security number and each will have to carry a picture ID. Please get with me with this information for those that are interested in helping. I will contact you as soon as I have a date.
There will be a tow pilot class this spring and I hope we can have several pilots certify as tow pilots. This will require the on line tow pilots course, 200 hours of PIC, class room training, a glider training and flight endorsement, a minimum of three flights towing a glider with a qualified tow pilot and sign off by the Wing Commander.
NEWS AROUND IOWA
LTC Chuck McDonald and LTC Russ Smith instructed another successful Mission Aircrew School at Des Moines. Many of our members recertified in the Counter Narcotics Class also.
With Capt George Cobley's National Check Pilot School, Iowa has once again recertified existing check pilots and certified several new check pilots.
Capt Doug Jansen and Capt John Halbrook have put together one great training course for ground team members. With so much new information they have now trained over 75 people. Many of these are almost finished with their total training.
The Operation Exercise in Davenport was very well attended even with the bad weather. They had over 65 attending, 3 aircraft with one on standby in Burlington and 5 very full ground teams. Thanks to MAJ Mike McCoy and the Davenport Squadron for another great day.
The Iowa Wing PAO's would like to say sorry for no information for the ONLINE NEWSLETTER for April. Our OLD computer received a visitor that we really didn't want to pass along to anyone. It is still sick but we are trying to get information from it.. We hope all of the Squadron Commanders pass this newsletter on to their members because we do not have the addresses for everyone off the old computer yet. Remember to send in any news to pa@iawg.cap.gov.
