May 2000

Calendar

For the Operation Exercise in Washington, Iowa, on 6 May, we are planning on having the Honorable Barry Brauns, an Iowa State Legislator with us.  We hope there is a great turn out for this exercise.  Remember the Flight Clinic being held on 20 May is for all flight crews.  This is NOT just for pilots. Observers and Scanners need this course also.  Check with your Commanders about attending.  It starts at 0900 and will finish by 1500.  Lunch is on site so PLEASE tell your Commander if you are planning on attending, so they may have enough food prepared.

CADETS

Elections were held 22 April during the Cadet Advisory Council meeting and CAC Cadet Advisor C/MAJ Jennifer Lewis, Davenport Composite Squadron announced that C/2LT Dan Stone, East Iowa Cadet Squadron was elected Chairperson, C/1LT Theresa Reuter, Dubuque Composite Squadron was elected Vice Chairperson and C/1LT Nicole Breitbach, Dubuque Composite Squadron was elected recorder.  We congratulate these Cadets.

Fort McCoy Trip. As this addition of ONLINE E-MAIL NEWS is being written, I do not have all the facts and figures about the trip. I understand about 52 Cadets and 10 Seniors had a very interesting trip.  Some of the Cadets were able to ride in the helicopters, worked out on the obstacle course, eat very interesting food and slept all the way home.

MESSAGE FROM C/LTC BRIAN ELFSTROM, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CADET PROGRAM

THIS & THAT

The National Check Pilot Course was held 15-16 April, at Davenport.  COL Joseph McMillan, National Chief of Staff and COL Emmit Williams, from the office of the National Inspector General where in attendance. This is a course that all check pilots have to attend every two years. This was really a very interesting class to observe and learn how much this dedicated group of pilots have to learn to keep all our pilots safe and current to fly.

From our DO, LTC Russ Smith, our planes flew 277.6 hours and 6 hours in private aircraft last quarter. Now that the weather is getting better it is definitely time to fly fly fly. Remember cadet flights are fully funded.

From our LG, COL John Lalla, all but one squadron reported for the last month and so far for the first three months we have 9,945 miles on our vehicles assigned to Iowa Wing.

Regional Conference. This year the NCR Conference will be held at the Four Points Hotel in Des Moines on 27 & 28 October. This would be a good chance to fulfill one of the requirements for advancement, by attending a regional event and to show support for Iowa's own COL Sheila J Waldorf, NCR Commander and past Iowa Wing Commander.

PLEASE be of help to us and e-mail information about what your squadrons are doing.
