C/LTC Brian Elfstrom is doing a fantastic job on our web site.
The SAR/EX held in Washington, Iowa on 6 May, was a real success. 56 seniors and cadets took part. 12 aircraft and 8 vehicles where on hand. There were 21 air sorties and 5 ground sorties. The Honorable Barry Brauns was with us for most of the exercise to see how we practice to keep up with our skills of flying, spotting and tracking. He was very impressed with how well everyone works at their tasks. A reporter for the Washington Evening Journal was with us also, taking lots of pictures and wrote a nice article. There were no accidents or mishaps and a safe day all around. Thanks to all who participated.
On 12 May, a group from East Iowa Cadet Squadron went to Waterloo to see if they could be of help after the tornado went through the area. They helped find the 44 houses damaged and 8 destroyed. One person was found injured. They spent 84 man hours on this mission. It is great to see how well we do when the real call comes in.
The 2000 Flight Clinic Ground School was held 20 May in the Linn County EMA Classroom. What a turn out. 28 seniors spent the day updating their general flying and cockpit knowledge. Thanks to Cedar Rapids Senior Squadron, CPT Ken Kremer and LTC Steve Swails for another wonderful lunch and having great presenters.
CADETS
10 - 17 June NCR Cadet Leadership School will be held at Salina, KS.
Contact C/LC Brian Elfstrom for information. cp@iawg.cap.govAt this time I still have NOT heard anything about the trip to Fort McCoy.
Our sympathy goes out to LTC Steve Palmquist and family with the death of his sister-in-law.
THIS & THAT
We would like to Welcome aboard 1st LT Bob Toenjes as the new Commander of the Black Hawk Composite Squadron. We are looking forward to seeing you and your squadron at some of our up coming events.
Remember cadet flights are fully funded, this includes ferry time to and from no flying squadrons, so lets hear that we DO NOT have any cadets who need these flights.
With the summer season now with us, REMEMBER, as always SAFETY FIRST.
Regional Conference. This year the NCR Conference will be held at the Four Points Hotel in Des Moines on 27 & 28 October. This would be a good chance to fulfill one of the requirements for advancement by attending a regional event and to show support for Iowa's our COL Sheila J. Waldorf, NCR Commander and past Iowa Wing Commander.
