THE AIR FORCE HAS DIRECTED ALL JROTC UNITS TO GIVE CAP FIRST SHOT AT ANY UNIFORMS THEY ARE GOING TO TURN IN. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!!!! All Cadet units should immediately contact their nearest AFJROTC unit and get whatever you can. They are getting rid of all the old Class A jackets which, as you know, our cadets can still wear. Act fast!

Commander Toenjes and the Black Hawk Squadron would like to thank everyone for their participation in FLY IOWA 2000, held at Waterloo 10-11 June.  Six Squadrons were represented by 44 individuals. Approximately 27,000 attended this event. This is an important event for Iowa CAP to be taking a very active part to show all who attend just who we are and what all we do.  Remember August 25-26, 2001 at Iowa City.

CPT Eric Schneider, Iowa Wing Vice Commander, attended the Regional Staff College at Offutt AFB 18-24 June.

Iowa Wing was represented in a one day training session at the State Emergency Operations Center, Starc Armory, near Camp Dodge by COL Rex Glasgow, LTC Charles McDonald, MAJ Cynthia Hentschel, MAJ Chuck Lord, and CPT Eric Schneider. Training covered the procedures used to coordinate the activities of the various member agencies in time of a disaster.

REMEMBER, THIS IS SUMMER, SO ALL CADETS SHOULD BE UP-TO-DATE ON THEIR ORIENTATION FLIGHTS. IF NOT, WHY NOT. THESE ARE FULLY FUNDED.

The Cental Iowa Composite Flight of the CAP hosted its First Annual Dining-Out on Friday, June 16, 2000. This prestigious event was held in the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center in Ames. CPT Mark Kickbush from the 132 Fighter Wing of the Iowa Air National Guard was the guest speaker. He discussed his experience as a fighter pilot in Operation Northern Watch. The unit received its official charter as a CAP Unit from COL Rex Glasgow, IA Wing Commander.

COL Kenneth Schindele, Air Force ROTC Detachment 250 Commander at ISU, presented CPT Douglass Jansen with the Civil Air Patrol General Carl A. Spaatz Award. CPT Jansen earned this distinguished award as a CAP cadet, which makes him the first CAP cadet in Iowa to have done so in over six years. The Air Force Association Award to Outstanding CAP Cadets was presented to C/LTC Brian Elfstrom by LTC Charles McDonald of the General Charles Horner Chapter of the AFA. Cadet Elfstrom earned this award given to the outstanding CAP Cadet in each unit by being a role model to his fellow cadets.

The Air Force Sergeants Association Award to outstanding Cadet NCO's was presented to C/TS Justin Pedersen by Mr. Jay Hyde of the AFSA. Cadet Pedersen earned this award given to outstanding Cadet NCO's in each unit by being a role model to his fellow cadet airmen and NCO's. He is currently a sophomore at ISU and is also an Air Force ROTC Cadet.

The CICF Senior Member of the Year was awarded to 2LT Chris Ludwig. LT Ludwig is the unit's Safety and ES Officer. He as distinguished himself by being one of the most active new seniors in the unit as well as one of the most active members of their ground team.

The CICF Cadet of the Year was awarded to C/LTC Brian Elfstrom. Cadet Elfstrom is the unit's Administrative Officer and has been instrumental in the continued success and growth of this unit. Aerospace Education Officer, SM Suzanne Tomlinson, was promoted to Captain. Also, 1LT John Halbrook, CICF Commander, was promoted to the rank of Captain by Colonel Rex Glasgow.

For those of you that were not able to attend, you sure missed a well organized event. The food was outstanding. Something should be said about the GROG BOWL, but this writer just can't find the correct words at the moment.

Make sure you keep your calendar's clear for next years event. It is something to plan to attend.
